Backed by an all-star rhythm section featuring Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, and Alvin Stoller, the record captures the contrast and complement between Hawkins’ bold, muscular tone and Webster’s warm, breathy lyricism. The result is a set of ballads and mid-tempo numbers that highlight the expressive depth of both players.
